If this is fresh whipped cream (as in cream whipped to the stage just before you get butter), you won't be able to store it more than a couple of hours before the cream starts separating. If it's stabilized pastry cream, you've got a day or so before it starts to go (and yes, store in the refrigerator); if it's a sort of blancmange type pastry "creme", you've got a couple of days, and yes, store it in the refrigerator.

I don't put real whipped cream in baked goods as a filling... I whip it just before serving and put it on the baked goods.

It's ok to store it in the fridge as it keeps it chilled and firm. Depending on how long you want to keep it. It'll be ok to keep for 2/3 days stored in a Tin in a cool dry place too. You don't say if it's fresh cream or Butter cream.

Anything to be kept overnight & not in the fridge, pop on a plate & in the microwave! Keeps it free from dust, small people who might poke it and animal hairs.

In a cake tin or box or if you do not have one of these cover well with tin foil and leave in a cool place
